Homemade Taco Seasonings Mix
Posted in : Sauces, Soups and Stews, Special/Unique on by : Noreen Tags: Homemade, Noreen, Peppers, Seasonings, Taco
Yields: Enough seasoning for 2 batches of tacos
Ingredients:
2 Tablespoons chili powder
1 Tablespoon ground cumin
2 teaspoons beef bouillon granules
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
½ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon dried oregano
Preparation:
In a small bowl, add all ingredients and mix well. Store in a Ziploc bag or small plastic bowl with airtight lid.
When ready to make a batch of tacos, use 2 heaping Tablespoons of this mix per 1 pound of meat.
Notes:
This mix is very similar to the commercial taco seasoning packets, but has no thickening agent like McCormicks or Lawry’s. If thickening is important to you, add 1 Tablespoon of cornstarch to the mix.
If you don’t have beef bouillon granules on hand, leave that out and when cooking your taco meat add 1 teaspoon of “Better Than Bouillon” savory beef flavor directly into the pan along with the spice mix and stir well.
If you need to cut sodium, replace the 1 teaspoon of garlic salt with just 1 teaspoon of garlic powder.
You can easily double or triple this recipe, keeping it in a tightly covered container in your cupboard for future use.
