Crescent Roll Apple Dumplings

Serves: 4

Ingredients:
1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough
2 Tablespoons cinnamon sugar
1 large apple – Granny Smith preferred, but any apple is good
1 stick butter, at room temperature
¾ cup brown sugar
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ cup Mountain Dew (or Sprite soda)

Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350°

Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a large cutting board or clean work surface. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar over the dough.

Peel and remove the core of the apple. Cut it into 8 wedges.

Place one apple piece on the wide end of each crescent roll triangle and roll it up. Pinch the ends together to seal the dumpling. Place each roll in a row in a 5″ x 9″ oven-safe loaf dish and set aside.

In a small bowl, mix together the butter, brown sugar and ground cinnamon. Spoon the butter mixture over the crescent rolls.

Pour the Mountain Dew around the sides of the loaf pan – not over the rolls themselves.

Bake for about 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly so the sauce thickens. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.

Notes:

This recipe doubles nicely, but I only have 4 people here and this gives us two each. They reheat nicely in the microwave at 40 seconds if you want to have some leftover for later.
