Homemade Chili Seasonings Mix
Posted in : Sauces, Soups and Stews, Special/Unique on by : Noreen Tags: Chili, Homemade, Noreen, Peppers, Seasonings
Yields: Enough seasoning for 3 – 4 pots of chili
Ingredients:
2 Tablespoons chili powder
2 Tablespoons garlic salt
1 Tablespoon ground cayenne pepper
1 Tablespoon onion powder
2 teaspoons white sugar
2 teaspoons cumin
2 teaspoons dried parsley flakes
ΒΌ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
Preparation:
In a small bowl, add all ingredients and mix well. Store in a Ziploc bag or small plastic bowl with airtight lid.
When ready to make a pot of chili, use 2 heaping Tablespoons of this mix per 1 pound of meat.
Notes:
This mix is very similar to the commercial chili seasoning packets but has no thickening agent like McCormicks or Lawry’s. If thickening is important to you, add 2 Tablespoons of cornstarch to the mix.
If you need to cut sodium, replace the 2 Tablespoons of garlic salt with just 1 Tablespoon of garlic powder.
Trust me on the sugar – it makes a nice difference in the overall flavor.
