Cheater Baked Beans

Serves: 8

Ingredients:
28 ounces B&M original baked beans
¼ pound bacon, sliced ⅛ʺ thick
1 each onion, diced
¼ teaspoon oregano
¼ teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 dash salt and pepper
¼ cup molasses
¼ cup light brown sugar, packed

Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350°

Remove lump of pork fat from can of baked beans.

On stovetop, cook bacon and onions together until onions are tender. Pull out a few strips of bacon and set aside.

In large baking dish, mix all other ingredients together, then top with reserved bacon.

Bake one hour (½ hour past bubbly point.)

    This was one of the dishes brought by a neighbor (Ruth) to a neighborhood pot luck barbeque held at my house in 1988. Everyone loved it and I asked for the recipe.

    My first husband loved baked beans and used to bug me to make them from scratch, like his mother and sister did. (I was not about to do that, it so much hard work!!!!) He didn’t know this recipe used canned beans, and when he tasted these beans at our party, he insisted I get the recipe and make it for him. I made this recipe for him the next week and he was so thrilled, until he saw the empty can of beans in the trash can after supper!!!!! Boy was he mad! (“You tricked me!”)
