Serves: 8
Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
⅛ teaspoon salt
⅛ teaspoon pepper
1 pound sweet Italian sausage links, broken in pieces
29 ounces tomato puree
10 ounces tomato soup, condensed
8 ounces tomato sauce
6 ounces tomato paste
½ cup ketchup
1 cup water
1 can mushroom pieces
1 can whole mushrooms
½ teaspoon rosemary
½ teaspoon sage
½ teaspoon thyme
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon pepper
1 stick butter
1 large green pepper, diced
1 large onion, diced
Preparation:
In separate frying pans, brown hamburger (seasoned with Worcestershire sauce, salt & pepper) and Italian sausage.
While these are browning, put tomato puree, soup, sauce, paste, ketchup and water into a large, dutch oven-sized pot. Stir these together over low heat, then add mushrooms. Add remaining spices, stir. When meat is finished browning, drain the fat from the meat and add to the sauce. Using butter, sauté the onion and green pepper until tender, add to sauce.
Simmer for at least 3 hours, stirring often with long handled wooden spoon.
Notes:
Serve over your favorite pasta.
Freezes well.
