Serves: 4

Ingredients:
1 large egg
½ cup milk
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons minced onion
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon dry mustard
¼ teaspoon garlic salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
¾ cup uncooked regular oats
1 pound lean ground beef

½ bottle (6 of the 12 ounces) chili sauce
3 packaged Cheddar cheese slices, cut into 1-inch strips

Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350° and lightly spray the bottom of a 9″ x 5″ loaf pan with cooking spray.

In a large bowl, lightly beat the egg and then add the rest of the ingredients except the chili sauce and cheese slices. Stir just until combined. Place in loaf pan and pat gently to shape a loaf with an even top and about a ½” gap from all four sides of the pan.

Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, then pour chili sauce over the top of the meat loaf and return pan to oven. Bake 20 to 25 more minutes or until meat is no longer pink in center.

Remove from oven and arrange cheese slices in a crisscross pattern on top of meat loaf. Let stand 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes:
Chili sauce is sold in bottles at most grocery stores in the condiments aisle. It is basically ketchup with a horseradish-type light kick. If your family does not like spicy foods, you can substitute plain ketchup, but I recommend trying it the first time as shown above – it is very mild and adds a nice flavor.
